When Life Feels Like More Than You Can Carry
Are you feeling stuck between who you were and who you’re supposed to be now, worrying about school, work, money or relationships in a way that keeps you up at night, or going through the motions while everyone else seems to have it figured out? You’re not alone, and reaching out for support doesn’t mean you’re failing at being an adult. Your late teens and early twenties bring a lot of change all at once, and many young adults carry far more than they let anyone see.
At The Sonatina Center, our team brings music therapy, art therapy and licensed mental health counseling together under one roof. If sitting across from someone and talking has never felt quite right for you, working with your hands through art or music can make it easier to open up, while you still have the full support of a clinical team.
If you’re wondering whether music therapy, art therapy or counseling is the right fit, we’re happy to talk it through during your free call.
Does This Sound
Like You?
Everyone’s experience is different, but these are some of the things young adults tell us about most often:
Feeling anxious, overwhelmed or on edge most of the time
Worrying about school, work, money or the future
Feeling stuck, unmotivated or unsure what you want
Struggling with who you are or where you fit in
Pulling away from friends or the things you used to enjoy
Having a hard time with a big change, like moving out, starting college or a breakup
Feeling down or empty without being able to explain why
Changes in sleep, appetite or energy that are hard to shake
If a few of these feel familiar, a free call is a good place to start.
How We Help
MUSIC THERAPY
Songwriting, drumming and making playlists that say what you can’t give you a way to process stress and big emotions through the music you already love and listen to every day. No musical experience is needed.
COUNSELING
Our counselors help you build coping skills for anxiety, stress and low moods, using approaches like cognitive behavioral therapy in sessions where you feel heard and respected.
ART THERAPY
Drawing, painting, collage and sculpting give you a way to show what’s going on inside when talking feels like too much, and a starting point for conversations about stress, relationships and identity.
FLEXIBLE SCHEDULING
We see clients from 8 am to 7 pm, so you can find a time that works around classes, work and everything else on your plate. Sessions take place in person at our Dover, NH office, in a calm and welcoming space.
Young Adult Therapy Can Help With…
-
Young adult therapy can help when anxiety has started to run your days, from racing thoughts at night and panic before a big exam or interview to the plans you cancel because going feels like too much.
Our therapists use evidence-based approaches including cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness, along with music and art, to help you understand your anxiety, build coping skills and feel more in control.
-
Young adult therapy can help when your emotions seem to go from zero to a hundred, whether that looks like snapping at people you care about, shutting down, or feeling like you can’t get a handle on what’s happening inside.
Our therapists help you notice what sets you off, understand what’s underneath the reaction, and build strategies you can use at work, at school and in your relationships.
-
Young adult therapy can help when you feel flat, tired or far away, when the things you used to love don’t feel the same, or when everything feels heavy and you can’t explain why.
Our therapists give you a steady, private space to talk and create, helping you name what you’re feeling, reconnect with what matters to you, and find your way back to feeling more like yourself.
-
Young adult therapy can help when you’re figuring out who you are, what you want and where you fit, especially when it seems like everyone around you already has it figured out.
Our therapists offer a non-judgmental space to explore your identity and values, helping you build a relationship with yourself that is confident, honest and kind.
-
Young adult therapy can help when a big change has turned your world upside down, like starting college, moving out, a new job, graduating, or a move far from home.
Our therapists help you work through the stress and uncertainty that come with change, so you can find your footing and move forward with more confidence.
-
Young adult therapy can help when relationships feel hard, whether that’s a breakup, friendships that have drifted, conflict with family, or feeling lonely even when you’re surrounded by people.
Our therapists help you understand your patterns, set healthy boundaries, and build connections that feel safe and supportive.
-
Young adult therapy can help if you’ve experienced trauma and carry it in ways that show up at work, at school, in your relationships and in your body.
Our therapists use trauma-informed approaches that create safety first, and we work at your pace, never pushing you to talk about what happened before you’re ready.
-
Young adult therapy can help when you’re grieving a person, a pet, a relationship, or a version of life you expected to have.
Grief doesn’t follow a schedule, and young adults often feel pressure to keep going as if nothing happened. Our therapists give you room to feel what you feel without rushing you toward an ending.
