(She/Her)
I’m Passionate About Working With:
Anyone with emotional, behavioral, or mental health struggles
Children and adults with disabilities
Todos aquellos que busca conexión, comunidad y paz en la musicoterapia
Ages I Work With: Children, Teenagers, Young Adults, Older Adults
We are not in therapy to be “fixed” or “cured,” but rather supported and encouraged in the growth we wish to pursue at this stage of our lives; our goals might change in one year from now and most certainly will in several years from now.
In a community-centered and collaborative approach to therapy— input and information from the client is central, while gathering additional information from caregivers, family members, educators, related service providers, paraprofessionals, social workers, other members of the treatment team, etc. can inform my work as a therapist and provide insight into client treatment.
Incorporating music preferences and interests is essential to my work as your music therapist!
I Believe…
In My Sessions
I Like To…
Explore many types of instruments and sounds together— through improvisation, turn-taking, sensory exploration, and music listening and drawing activities.
Play play play!— musical games are a big part of what I enjoy doing with clients of all ages
Incorporate client-preferred music as often as possible into our sessions to motivate you to have fun while working towards your goals!
Encourage creative self-expression and reflective discussion through songwriting and lyric analysis activities with my clients

Hello, my name is Jessica L. Kaptcianos. Please feel free to call me Jess! I graduated from Providence College with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and minor in Music. I received my Master of Arts in Music Therapy and Mental Health Counseling from Lesley University. I am passionate about working with humans of all ages and abilities—particularly in school settings, adult mental health, and queer folks.
Having spent the last five years working as a music therapist in El Paso, Texas, I gained knowledge of the importance of a community-centered approach to therapy which has shaped and informed how I practice. The experience of using music as a tool for building and enhancing community reflects in my work with clients, and I often turn to my clients’ surrounding communities for insight into treatment and intervention planning. Listening to Spanish-language and Latin American music is an additional interest of mine– particularly the music of Selena, Julieta Venegas, and Mon Laferte. Me encanta incorporar español con mis clientes cuando es apropiado en la terapia.
I operate with a belief that we all should be doing our part to make our services, spaces, music, and the arts accessible for all. Listen, learn, and make adjustments as needed to better serve our clients and community. Favorite pastimes include going for walks and exploring nature, photography, dance, reading, writing, poetry, contemplating the vast mysteries of the universe, practicing Spanish—necesito practicar más, spending time with family, singing, songwriting, and performing music.

MA: Master of Arts
MT-BC: Board Certified Music Therapist -
As a music therapist, I strive to ensure my work is both intersectional and client-centered. My priority is to establish a safe and trusting environment with my clients, so that they may creatively express themselves at a pace and manner that feels most authentic for them. I enjoy incorporating client interests—music and otherwise!—into our sessions. If it matters to you, it matters to me. I pull from a variety of approaches in my practice, weaving together humanistic and family systems theory with an overarching framework of community music therapy. While therapy is unique and personalized depending on client needs, collective goals of building community, enhancing emotional wellness, and empowering one another through shared music-making experiences are integral to improving the lives of our clients and each other.
