Creative Arts Therapy for Adults

When most people think of The Sonatina Center, they think of children. And while supporting kids and families is a big part of what we do, creative arts therapy is for people of all ages — including adults. Music therapy, art therapy, and mental health counseling offer meaningful support for adults navigating a wide range of life experiences, and we want to make sure you know those services are here for you too. Share this with the adults in your life who might benefit.

Pregnant People and Expecting Parent(s):

The decision to grow your family can bring up many unexpected thoughts and feelings. Many pregnant people feel anxious about their upcoming birth or what will happen in the days after baby arrives. Individual Music and Art therapy sessions are two services we offer to expecting parents during pregnancy and birth. Private one-on-one or partner sessions address your specific concerns during pregnancy and postpartum while fueling you with self-care and relaxation strategies. Some common concerns include: managing general anxiety, postpartum depression, processing a difficult or traumatic birth, writing a birth song, bonding with your baby and adjusting to your new role as a parent.

Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder Recovery

Individual music therapy and art therapy sessions offer adults a safe and confidential setting to explore personal feelings in a non-traditional way. Creative arts therapy sessions offer new ways for individuals to express themselves and gain perspective on their lives and experiences. Adults can experience a range of benefits from making changes in mood and emotional states to enhancing self-awareness, to developing coping skills for use in everyday life. We also offer traditional mental health counseling services with or without creative arts experiences.

Neurologic Recovery (Stroke and Traumatic Brain Injuries):

Music and Art Therapy can help individuals improve or regain speech and motor capabilities that have been lost as a result of an injury to the brain. Individuals will benefit from improved movement and muscle control, increased speech and communication, and positive changes in mood and sense of motivation.

Older Adults with Alzheimer's, Dementia, or Parkinson's Disease:

Music and Art Therapy provides benefits to older adults who have deficits in physical, psychological, cognitive or social functioning. Individual and group therapy sessions provide opportunities for memory recall, positive changes in mood and emotional states, a sense of control over life through successful experiences, anxiety and stress reduction, and non-pharmacological management of pain and discomfort.

We offer sessions for adults at our office locations and we are able to travel to homes, independent or assisted living facilities, rehabilitative & medical centers, and community centers to provide our services.
